Thank you

Thank you to all of you who have supported the September Campaign and also to those who came out to the event on Thursday night at Gallery Bar. The event and campaign was a huge success. We, together, more than doubled our original goal and raised awareness to everyone who came what charity: water is and how important water is to us.

At the event, I asked all of you to go home and do a MINIMUM 3 things. Did you do it? Here's a reminder:

1) Sober up
2) Drink a glass of NYC tap water and REALLY appreciate it
3) go to facebook.com/charitywater and "like" the page to keep up to date with news and events

Campaign results as of today:

Original Goal: $1000
Newly raised goal: $1250
Actual Raised: $2122
September Campaign Total: $336,437
Facebook "likes": 139
Number of Donations: 81
People we saved: 106

Please remember there are 19 days left in the campaign. Spread the word and look at this video of what we helped accomplish:

we're NOT giving up

Live Drill: It Doesn't Always Work.

Today is the fourth anniversary of charity: water. Our team spent it in a village called Moale, trying to dig our 200th water project in Central African Republic. We've been in constant contact with our team on the ground throughout the drilling process. Here's an update straight from charity: water founder Scott Harrison:

It was going to be an amazing story, and charity: water’s 200th completed project in the country. The people of Moale had been waiting for water for more than a decade. After two failed attempts to reach clean water many years ago, our local partner ICDI brought in a new drilling rig that could dig up to 700 feet. Unfortunately, they never made it that far. In what was by far the most challenging drill we’ve ever witnessed, the team came up short after 30 straight hours when the second borehole caved in.

It was a heartbreaking and messy day. We'd hoped to show you footage of a joyful village celebrating a successful drill, but we didn't achieve that today. We’re committed to transparency at charity: water, so instead, our Live Drill video will show you the reality and challenges we face on the ground.

Tomorrow, we'll start drilling in another nearby Bayaka village. We haven't given up on Moale. For now, the people there will have to wait a little bit longer for their well -- but we will be back. In the meantime, with your help, we can provide clean and safe drinking water for every Bayaka through this year's September Campaign.

-- Scott Harrison

Moale's well is just one of more than 200 water projects we'll fund through this year's September Campaign. We'll drill another well tomorrow, Wednesday, Sept. 8, and broadcast the video at 5 p.m. ET, on charitywater.org/september.

3 days!

We have just 3 days until the event!

We have almost everything finalized and I can't wait to share with you all the work of charity: water. All that is left to do is basically for you to come down to Gallery Bar (120 Orchard Street) on September 9th at 8:30PM to come rock out with us looking good.

Please be there at 8:30PM. After check-in at door and a bit of warming up, we will start right away with charity:water short film and raffle give-a-ways! Bring friends, family, and co-workers, but remember if we hit our maximum capacity, we have to keep people out unfortunately, so please come on time.

$20 donation at http://mycharitywater.org/joanna places you on the Guest List on that website that allows for you to get a bracelet at the entrance for discounted drinks all night long and free raffle entry. However, you are still welcome to come without donating anything! We hope to not just raise funds, but awareness of the world's water crisis.
Also, if you are planning to come to the event, but donated anonymously... I wouldn't know who you are at the door.

See you there!

Live Drill

The Bayaka tribe in Central African Republic first tried to dig a well to have access to clean drinking water 16 years ago. They did not have any tools but their hands. When they reached just 50 feet, the diggers ran out of oxygen, so the tribe had to force air down to hole so that they can breathe. However, they had to stop at 90 feet.

When Jim Hocking of ICDI returned to the Bayaka tribe several years later, he was not able to reach groundwater source even with his drill and gave up at 500 feet. Geologists today predict that water exist some where between 500 and 900 feet in the ground.

On September 7, 2010 charity: water is hosting a web cam led Live Drill event to try to drill down up to 900 feet. After 16 years of trying, we're going to finally make it happen. We're going to drill the first well with funds raised from the September campaign to bring the first clean water source to the Bayaka tribe.
